As we slowly leave the earth to ascend
Through clouds of our vision, toward infinity,
The heavens become our companion and friend.
Vast horizons unfold for eyes to see;
And while all of nature seems within reach,
Man’s miniature world begins to be dwarfed
By Creation’s splendor beyond all speech.
Behind us the sun sinks in shades of red;
Twilight brings the last quarter moon in view,
Darkness descends, stars winking into sight,
The Milky Way lightens the sky anew,
Flying east through the timelessness of night.
Light grows ahead, a new day being born;
With the sun we rise to heaven this morn.
